知多木綿 – 慶長年間よりつづく晒し

知多木綿とは尾張知多一帯で織られる木綿の事をいいます。
慶長年間（1596年～1615年）にはその存在が認識されております。後に江戸では「今までにない白さと、品質の知多晒」と知れ渡り、最も名の通った木綿ブランドになりました。
明治以降、豊田式動力織機発祥の地として、日本一長く織機に携わり培ってきた技術力と、江戸時代より木綿と向き合ってきた職人の心意気をそのままに、今も変わらぬ良質な生地を生み出し続けております。

この木綿は「和晒」とよばれる技術で精錬しています。
和晒とは窯に生地を並べ２～３日かけゆっくりと炊き込んでいく昔ながらの製法です。
時間はかかりますが生地にストレスがかからないために仕上がりは柔らかく吸水性の良い生地が生まれるのが特徴です。

文　：20番手の太めの糸 / やや粗めでざっくり（約 34cm×10ｍ）
特文：20番手の太めの糸 / 目が細かく滑らか（約 34cm×10ｍ）
特岡：30番手の細めの糸 / 目が細かく滑らか（約 37cm×12ｍ）

Chita Cotton – Bleached since the Keicho Era
Chita cotton refers to cotton woven in the Chita region of Owari.
Its existence was recognized during the Keicho Era (1596-1615). Later, in Edo, it became known as “Chita bleached cotton with unprecedented whiteness and quality,” and became the most famous cotton brand.
Since the Meiji Era, as the birthplace of the Toyoda power loom, we have continued to produce high-quality fabrics with the same technical skills that have been cultivated by working with looms for the longest time in Japan, and the spirit of our craftsmen who have been working with cotton since the Edo Era.
This cotton is refined using a technique called “wazarashi.”
Wazarashi is an old-fashioned method in which the fabric is placed in a kiln and slowly cooked for 2-3 days.
It takes time, but because it puts no stress on the fabric, the end result is a soft, highly absorbent fabric.
